In the history of the modern Olympics no games have been held in an odd year. 2021 has arrived and elite athletes from around the world will once again prepare for the Tokyo games, the XXXII Olympiad, commencing in July. Western States, too was cancelled in 2020 and rescheduled for June 2021 with 400+ runners preparing for their personal battle against time and distance, plus the mountainous terrain that this challenging course requires runners of all abilities to conquer.
The novel, "100 Miles to Destiny," a unique work of fictional literature describes many topics and events associated with the XXIII Olympiad, hosted by the City of Angels. Many of the characters depicted in the story are based on individuals the author met during his global travels during the 1980's. The reader experiences the Western States Trail through the eyes of an international cadre of competitors and embarks on a journey that encompasses many nationalities; Their history, culture, language and ideology. Politics, religion, relationships and of course running are topics fully explored and presented in this unprecedented work of historical fiction.
